On 14 February 2023, H.E. Mr. Cherdkiat Atthakor, Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, led a delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy to pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Chhit Sokhon, Minister of Cults and Religions of Cambodia, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duties.

The Thai Ambassador reiterated the close religious ties and cooperation that have continued between the two countries in the past years, such as the annual Royal Kathina and temple restorations in Cambodia. He also expressed his determination to continue the work of previous ambassadors. Future cooperation he put forward includes granting scholarships to Cambodian Buddhist monks to study in Thailand. He emphasised that the connection based on Buddhism is a constructive link at the people level, which will further enhance the mutual understanding between the two countries.

The Cambodian Minister of Cults and Religions extended his welcome to the Thai Ambassador. He highlighted that Thailand and Cambodia have been close neighbours, especially in terms of cultures and traditions. Many Cambodians go to study in Thailand. Religious cooperation between the two countries can be carried out without difficulty because both Thailand and Cambodia share Theravada Buddhism as the main religion. He also wished the Thai Ambassador success in performing the important duties he has been tasked with.
