On 20 May 2022, H.E. Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Ambassador of Thailand to the Kingdom of Cambodia, led a delegation comprising officials of the Embassy and the Thai private companies to visit Kampong Speu Institute of Technology (KSIT) under Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Education Project to the Kingdom of Cambodia in Kampong Speu Province, in order to follow up on the development of KSIT and carry out a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity for KSIT and local communities in the area. Also present at the visit were Mr. Rath Sara, Director of Vocational Orientation Department, Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Mr. Hong Kimcheang, Director of KSIT.

Thailand and Cambodia have enjoyed excellent relations through various aspects of cooperation. An aspect of the cordial relations is the implementation of development cooperation in a variety of projects involving the provisions of basic infrastructure, short-term training courses, scholarships, Thai experts, Thai volunteers, and essential equipment, in order to strengthen the economic and social development of Cambodia through Development Diplomacy.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Education Project to the Kingdom of Cambodia is the most notable example. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has given to the people of Cambodia a gift that would offer sustainable livelihood, one such as school, starting with Kampong Chheuteal Institute of Technology (KCIT) in 2001 and Kampong Speu Institute of Technology (KSIT) in 2016.

The Royal Project to establish KSIT has become a central part of young people’s education in Kampong Speu Province and the surrounding areas, providing education opportunities at certificate, diploma, and bachelor’s degree levels in technical and vocational education. In addition, Her Royal Highness has also been providing full-funding scholarships known as “the Royal Scholarship” that provide the young generation of Cambodia with equal education opportunities as Her Royal Highness believes that education is the best cure for poverty.

As the main coordinator of the Royal Projects in Cambodia, the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh has worked to support and strengthen KSIT in various forms, namely construction and renovation of infrastructure, human resource and curriculum development, support of essential educational equipment, all of which are implemented under the Royal Project Agreement Graciously Bestowed to the Kingdom of Cambodia in the Field of Education between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia on the Development of the Kampong Chheuteal Institute of Technology and the Kampong Speu Institute of Technology signed between the two countries in September 2020.

After the site visit led by the Director of KSIT around the Institute’s premises, the Royal Thai Embassy and the visiting Thai companies have jointly conducted CSR activity contributing basic consumption products, school equipment, construction materials, and other essential items to KSIT and local institutions and communities in the area.

The visit to KSIT and CSR activity serve as a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Thailand and Cambodia, and for all those involved in the activity to carry forward the aspiration of Her Royal Highness to enhance equal and quality education system for the Cambodian young generation, which will play a key role in driving the country towards sustainable development.
