On 27 January 2023, H.E. Mr. Cherdkiat Atthakor, Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, led a delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy to pay a courtesy call upon Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia, on the occasion of assuming his position.
Both sides welcomed the close tie and cooperation between the two countries at all levels in managing every issue together in the spirit of good neighbourliness.
Ambassador Cherdkiat underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation on security and military between the two countries, notably through exchanging high-level visits and other bilateral mechanisms such as General Border Committee (GBC), Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) or Navy To Navy Talk which Thailand stands ready to host the first meeting. Moreover, Ambassador Cherdkiat expressed appreciation to Samdech Tea Banh for his support on the humanitarian demining along the border areas regardless of the joint survey and demarcation being uncompleted, following the agreement between the Prime Ministers of the two countries. Ambassador Cherdkiat also requested continued cooperation in preventing illegal border crossings. He stressed that the Thai Government has no policy to allow Thai people to illegally enter Cambodia to commit illegal activities and stands ready to support Cambodia in suppressing such crime.
Samdech Tea Banh highlighted the importance of reviving the JBC meeting which Cambodia will be the host. Samdech also welcomed the progress of demining activities along the border areas and reiterated that all agencies including CMAC have been instructed to expedite the demining work. In addition, Samdech Tea Banh reaffirmed the long and cordial relationship between the two countries and the support that Thailand has provided to Cambodia for peace and prosperity of Cambodia.
