On 29 October 2021, Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia and representatives of Team Thailand, the Thai Private Sector and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport of Cambodia attended the 4th Princess Maha Chakri Award Ceremony online via Zoom from Phnom Penh.
During the Ceremony, H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously gave a Special Lecture during which the crucial role of teachers in shaping the lives of students, the important role of civil society in the development of education, teaching-learning experience, and Her Royal Highness' Royal Projects on education in the Southeast Asian region were highlighted. While talking about the Royal Projects in Cambodia, Her Royal Highness mentioned 2 projects on the establishment of educational institutions which started off as secondary schools and have later developed into institutes that offer tertiary education. These Institutes are Kampong Chheuteal Institute of Technology in Kampong Thom Province, and Kampong Speu Institute of Technology in Kampong Speu Province.
This year, the Cambodian recipient of Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) is Mr. Norn Dary, Teacher of Grade 6 from Quach Mengly Toulbeng Primary School in Kampong Cham. His outstanding teaching method includes using ICT in education and the adoption of child-centred approach. He is the 4th PMCA recipient from Cambodia following Ms. Tauch Bundaul (2015), Ms. Dy Sophorn (2017) and Mr. Loy Virak (2019).
The PMCA is conferred every 2 years to outstanding teachers from 11 countries in Southeast Asia (members of ASEAN and Timor-Leste) whose passion for and dedication to teaching have brought positive change to the students' lives and have made significant impacts to the community development.
